Musical theatre deadlines don't work like regular college deadlines. Prescreen videos are often due a month or more before the university application, some programs use early dates tied to callback weekends or Unified auditions, and every school announces on its own schedule. This tracker pulls every confirmed 2026–27 deadline straight from the stageready program database — the same verified, source-linked data that powers each school's profile — and updates automatically as programs publish their dates.
The broad arc of the season: application portals open in August and September (the Common App opens August 1, and most Acceptd-based artistic applications open around the same time), prescreen deadlines cluster between October 1 and December 1, university applications follow in December and January, and callbacks and Unified auditions run January into February. If a school you're tracking isn't in the confirmed table yet, scroll down — last season's dates are listed for planning until new ones are announced.

How to Read These Deadlines
A few patterns to know:
- Early vs. final prescreen deadlines. Many programs offer an early prescreen date tied to the first callback weekend and a final date for the last one. Earlier submissions generally mean more callback slots are still open — treat the earliest date that applies to you as the real deadline.
- Rolling / TBD. A handful of programs review on a rolling basis or haven't pinned a date. For those, earlier is safer — rolling programs fill as they review.
- Prescreens come first. At most prescreen schools the video is due before or alongside the university application. Build your filming schedule backwards from your earliest prescreen date — our wild card guide covers the video piece most students underestimate.

Last season’s dates, shown for planning only — most schools publish new dates between August and October, and this table shrinks as they do. We re-verify each program’s cycle every fall.
Deadline Strategy for the 2026–27 Season
These deadlines are the fixed points — for the full month-by-month plan around them (materials, essays, filming, callbacks, decisions), follow our College Theatre Audition Timeline. The short version, keyed to the table above:
- August: finalize your school list (our acceptance rates and selectivity guide helps you balance it), open every portal, and track all of your deadlines.
- September: pull together your headshot and resume, make a shot list from each school's requirements, and start filming when you feel ready.
- October: ship it — film and submit your prescreens and applications ahead of the October–December deadline cluster, and complete the FAFSA and CSS Profile.
- November–December: prescreen results arrive; schedule callbacks quickly and book travel.
- January–February: callbacks and Unifieds. Programs with later or rolling deadlines are still in play if your list needs additions.
Every deadline in this tracker also appears on the matching program page on stageready, where you can save schools to a list and track dates against your own application progress.
2026–27 Deadline FAQs
When are musical theatre prescreens due?
Most prescreen deadlines fall between October 1 and December 1 of senior year, with a smaller early wave in September and October tied to first-round callback weekends. The confirmed table above lists every verified 2026–27 date in order.
When do 2026–27 musical theatre applications open?
Most portals open in August and September 2026 — the Common App opens August 1, and Acceptd-based artistic applications typically open in the same window. Once a program's deadline for the new season is confirmed, it appears in the table above; check each program's stageready page for its portal links and application order.
Do I apply to the university or the program first?
It varies by school. Many require the university application before (or alongside) the artistic application; others let you submit the prescreen first. Each program’s stageready page lists the application order and the official source for it — check there before assuming.
What if a school hasn’t announced its 2026–27 deadline yet?
Most programs publish their new dates between August and October. Until then, last season’s date (in the second table) is a reasonable planning proxy — deadlines rarely move by more than a couple of weeks year to year. This tracker updates automatically as schools publish, so check back as you build your calendar.
