One from each timespan: pre-1965, 1965-1990, 1990-current

Music theatre repertoire only — avoid rock, pop, country, jazz

Memorized, no more than 4 minutes each

Cuts of 32 bars or more welcome

Demonstrate head-voice proficiency with legato lines

Select most comfortable song to sing first; committee will request others

Must apply to NYU Steinhardt before scheduling audition

This major is at Steinhardt, not Tisch School of the Arts

Early Decision is not required for Artistic Review Portal access. Regular Decision applicants receive access after submitting the Common Application; allow a couple of business days for access before the prescreen deadline.

Transfer Pathway

NYU Steinhardt Vocal Performance gives transfer students a program-specific credit and placement review: time to degree depends on accepted credits and faculty adjudication of how many private-voice semesters count. Prior private-voice study is reviewed but not guaranteed to satisfy NYU degree requirements.
