One musical theatre song from pre-1965 repertoire

One contemporary song (modern musical theatre, pop, or rock)

Accompaniment

Preferably accompanied (live or pre-recorded backing track)

Unaccompanied singing is acceptable

No original compositions

Monologues

One Audition Speech, 2 Min Max

Either modern/contemporary (post-1956) or Elizabethan/Jacobean

Must be from a published play

All candidates' current dance ability is assessed, as dance is a core discipline taught on the programme

3-year full-time course starting 19 September 2027

Exceptional practical ability may substitute for formal qualifications

International applicants must demonstrate English fluency

What's The Process

Audition Process

Apply through UCAS Conservatoires before submitting the first-round self-tape through Acceptd

The self-tape includes an introduction, two contrasting songs, and one speech

RWCMD emails the applicant-specific self-tape deadline after receiving the application

Recall auditions take place in person at RWCMD in Cardiff on selected dates during February and March and include singing, acting, and movement sessions

Recall candidates repeat both original songs and the original speech, then prepare one new contrasting song and one new contrasting speech

Online recall auditions are available only in exceptional circumstances, including distance, illness, or an additional travel need

Decisions

RWCMD communicates the first-round outcome in writing and notifies invited candidates of their recall date through Acceptd

Recall dates are fixed and alternatives cannot be guaranteed
