An influencer degree may sound like a punchline until you look at what these programs actually teach. Video production, podcasting, audience analytics, media psychology, personal branding, campaign strategy, and entrepreneurship now sit inside full bachelor's degrees.
The five programs below take sharply different approaches. Arizona State University focuses on the creator economy and strategic storytelling. UT San Antonio adds persuasion and media psychology. Arkansas Tech University blends social media with filmmaking and public relations. South East Technological University combines content creation with analytics and digital marketing in Ireland. AMDA brings content creation into an auditioned performing arts BFA.
This is not a ranking. It is a comparison of five distinct paths for students who want to build audiences, create original media, or combine performance training with an online creative career.

What Do You Study in an Influencer Degree?
There is no single curriculum model for content creation. The strongest distinction is whether a program treats influencing as a branch of communication, media production, marketing, or performance.
- Communication and strategy: audience analysis, persuasion, campaign planning, brand storytelling, public relations, and media ethics.
- Production: video, photography, podcasting, editing, writing, graphic design, and platform-specific content.
- Creator business skills: personal branding, entrepreneurship, monetization, audience growth, analytics, and portfolio development.
- Performance: acting, dance, or music theatre training paired with original content development and on-camera work.
The right program depends on whether you want to become a creator, work behind the scenes for brands and organizations, or use content to support a performance career.
5 College Degrees for Influencers and Content Creators
Arizona State University
ASU's BA Content Creation is housed in the Walter Cronkite School and centers the creator economy. Students study video and podcast production, social strategy, audience analytics, personal branding, and integrated communication, with opportunities connected to the Los Angeles Content Studio, internships, and international projects. The program does not require an audition and is offered in Downtown Phoenix and at ASU in Los Angeles.
UT San Antonio
UT San Antonio distinguishes its BA Digital Media Influence through media psychology and persuasion. Students pair audience analysis with web design, video, imagery, content writing, and Adobe Creative Cloud production tools while building a digital portfolio. The major has no additional admission requirements beyond university admission and can be completed on campus or fully online.
Arkansas Tech University
Arkansas Tech's 120-credit BA approaches digital content from a creator's perspective, combining filmmaking, public relations, social media, and communication ethics. Required coursework includes Social Media Influencing I and II, while practical experiences include channel creation, internships, video production, practica, and a capstone project. Admission does not require an audition or prescreen.
South East Technological University
SETU's four-year, 240-credit honours degree is based at the Kilkenny Road campus in Carlow, Ireland. Its curriculum covers creative video, podcasting, influencer and celebrity studies, platform algorithms, audience data, digital marketing, branding, and social psychology. Students can develop a personal brand and professional portfolio while pursuing work-experience and study-abroad opportunities.
AMDA - Los Angeles
AMDA's BFA is the performance-centered option in this group. Students choose Acting & Content Creation, Dance & Content Creation, or Music Theatre & Content Creation, then combine performance training with original work for theatre, film, television, and social media. The Los Angeles program requires an audition, includes a culminating original showcase, and offers an accelerated 2.5-year path.

BA or BFA: Which Path Fits You?
The four BA programs leave more room for communication, marketing, analytics, general education, and electives. They make sense for students interested in content strategy, brand work, social media management, production, or building an independent creator business.
AMDA's BFA is different. It is designed for performers who want intensive acting, dance, or music theatre training alongside content creation. The audition requirement reflects that focus. If your primary goal is to perform and use digital media to create original work or reach an audience, the BFA may be the more direct fit.
Degree letters do not determine career outcomes on their own. Compare the required courses, production resources, portfolio expectations, internship access, and the amount of room you want for a second major or minor.
How to Choose a Content-Creation Program
- Start with the kind of creator you want to become. ASU and Arkansas Tech emphasize production and creator practice. UT San Antonio leans into persuasion and audience psychology. SETU blends content with digital marketing and analytics. AMDA starts with performance.
- Compare production access. Look for editing software, studios, equipment, portfolio courses, internships, and regular opportunities to publish real work.
- Check the business curriculum. A sustainable creator career requires more than making posts. Courses in analytics, branding, ethics, entrepreneurship, public relations, and campaign strategy can broaden your options.
- Decide whether format matters. UT San Antonio offers a fully online route, while the other programs are tied more closely to specific campuses and production environments.
- Understand the admission process. Four programs use general university admission without a creative review. AMDA requires a performance audition for each concentration.
Before You Apply
Read the curriculum beyond the program title. Two degrees can both mention content creation while offering very different balances of production, theory, marketing, analytics, and performance. Build a short list based on the work you want to make and the skills you want to leave with.
Then compare tuition, application routes, transfer pathways, scholarships, and campus format. International applicants should also review visa eligibility and whether an online option qualifies for their intended study arrangement.
