Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Three required selections, all performed from memory: one composition by Bach, one sonata-allegro movement of a Classical sonata (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, or Schubert), and one substantial Romantic work (e.g., Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, or Liszt)

Fluent performance of all major and minor scales is expected alongside the repertoire

Scholarship applicants additionally sight-read an art song and an instrumental accompaniment to demonstrate accompanying skills

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters from recommenders such as teachers or music educators familiar with your musical abilities

Letters are handled from within the audition application survey

$40 non-refundable university application fee

Complete the separate Music Department audition application via Qualtrics form

Audition and scholarship applications due by February 20, 2026

FAFSA required for named scholarships listing "need" as a requirement

Placement

Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement assessment for course placement only — it does not affect admission

Enrollment

Keyboard Emphasis within the BM Music Performance degree

Recipients must perform in two designated department ensembles every semester (accompanying is the primary ensemble for keyboard scholarship recipients)

Must enroll in private piano or organ lessons
