Audition Requirements
Songs
TWO VOCAL SELECTIONS, performed from memory
•Both may be in English, but a song in a contrasting language is preferred
•Selections should be from the classical vocal repertory
•Acceptable genres: aria, art song, folk song, and other classifications that are not "pop" style
•Choose repertoire that most accurately shows the beauty and potential of the voice
ACCOMPANIMENT
•An accompanist will be provided for in-person auditions
•Once audition date/time is assigned, you will be contacted regarding a rehearsal time with your accompanist
ALTERNATIVE SUBMISSION
•In lieu of a live audition, a high-quality video or audio recording may be submitted (video preferred)

MUSICAL SKILLS ASSESSMENT (part of audition)
•Sight-reading of both rhythm and melody
•Rhythms may include simple or compound meters, dotted and syncopated figures, and ties
•Melodies may include leaps from tonic triad, IV and V chords, syncopated figures, major or minor tonalities
•Use of solfege system is preferred
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION (required for scholarship)
•Three letters from teachers, music educators, or others familiar with your musical abilities
•Handled from within the audition application survey

•$40 non-refundable university application fee
•Complete the separate Music Department audition application via Qualtrics form
