Audition Requirements

Dance

On-Campus Audition (Three Parts at Elizabeth Moore Hall)

DANCE CLASS: Ballet barre, center work, modern and contemporary work across the floor, and improvisation

DANCE SOLO: 90 seconds of choreographed material; bring your audio (digital media or CD)

DANCE INTERVIEW: Meeting with dance faculty to discuss the program; parents and guardians encouraged to attend

Video Audition (Two Videos)

Video 1: Ballet class (work at the barre, center, and across the floor); no need to show work on both sides

Video 2: Dance solo in a studio setting in a style that best represents the dancer, their strengths, and performance qualities

Minimum 90 seconds, maximum 4 minutes in length

Do not include videos from public performance

Interview

Video auditioners must also participate in an interview, scheduled through the Dance Program Application

Apply to WVU and indicate interest in a College of Creative Arts and Media major

Complete the School of Theatre & Dance Dance audition registration on Acceptd

You may arrange the artistic review before or after completing the WVU application, but admission cannot be finalized until WVU admits you

Important Notes

Audition may qualify students for a School of Theatre and Dance scholarship

What's The Process

Audition Process

Acceptance to Dance BA requires WVU admission and a successful dance audition

Three audition options are offered: a live audition during an audition day event, a virtual audition by video upload, or a private audition arranged on a weekday

In-person auditions take place at Elizabeth Moore Hall during the audition day campus visit

All students, including video auditioners, must also participate in an interview with dance faculty

Audition Expectations

In-person audition has three parts: a dance class (ballet barre, center work, modern and contemporary across the floor, and improvisation), a 90-second dance solo, and a dance interview

Bring your own audio for the solo (digital media or CD)

Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the dance interview

Video auditioners submit two videos: ballet class material and a dance solo

Virtual auditions are reviewed with the next on-campus audition group — a video submitted January 1 is reviewed with the January audition group

Audition registration for 2027 admission opens September 1, 2026
