Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire

•Prepare a principal-instrument audition appropriate to your area (brass, woodwind, string, percussion, or guitar)

•Two contrasting etudes, movements, or solos that show off your playing ability

Scales & Technique

•Major scales appropriate to your instrument (range and octaves as you are comfortable)

Sight-Reading

•A short sight-reading excerpt may be included

Accompaniment

•Accompanist not required and will not affect audition results

•Step 1: Apply to West Texas A&M University via the Texas Common Application

•Step 2: Complete the audition form via Acceptd and request an audition date

•Apply before the deadline for the date you wish to audition

Admission Pathway

•Dual admission — students must apply and be admitted to both the university and the School of Music

•All prospective music students must audition regardless of their chosen degree plan

•Admitted students take music theory and aural-skills placement diagnostics at orientation — for course placement only, not admission
