Songs

Requirements

•Three Songs

•Perform 3 songs demonstrating variety of style and language

Suggested Repertoire

•Art songs and/or arias from the classical literature in a variety of languages

•Musical theater songs (e.g., Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jason Robert Brown, Sondheim, Lin-Manuel Miranda)

•Choral excerpts (minimum 3 pages)

Repertoire Ideas

•English art songs or arias by Barber, Britten, Copland, Quilter, Rorem, or Purcell

•Early Italian songs and arias

•Arias by Handel or Mozart

Additional Materials

Ear Training Placement Video

•Required

•Sing a one-octave major scale

•Sing "Happy Birthday"

•Play a C on a keyboard and sing the pitch, then repeat with E-flat and A

•Play D and F-sharp one at a time, then sing them back-to-back

•Use a virtual keyboard if no instrument is available

•The department focuses on hearing your potential rather than specific repertoire
