Songs
MINIMUM THREE TUNES (recorded audio or video)
•ONE UP-TEMPO TUNE such as "Cherokee," "Ornithology," "It Could Happen To You," or similar
•ONE MEDIUM-TEMPO TUNE such as "All the Things You Are," "Out of Nowhere," "Have You Met Miss Jones?" or similar
•ONE BALLAD such as "Body and Soul," "In A Sentimental Mood," "I Can't Get Started" or similar
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
•Demonstrate ability to perform within a group and as a soloist
•One improvised chorus within the medium or up-tempo tune must be performed entirely unaccompanied
VOCALIST-SPECIFIC
•Include a vocalize at the beginning if currently studying voice
•Demonstrate ability to scat as well as understanding of the lyric
Additional Materials
EAR TRAINING PLACEMENT RECORDING (required)
•Sing a one-octave major scale
•Sing "Happy Birthday"
•Play a C on a keyboard and sing the pitch — repeat with Eb and A
•Play D and F# one at a time, then sing them back-to-back
-Use a virtual keyboard if no instrument is available

•Submit a separate music department application for jazz
PROGRAM FLEXIBILITY
•Once accepted via jazz audition, may choose any jazz concentration with faculty approval

•All jazz auditions are by uploaded audio or video recording — no in-person auditions
•Upload instructions provided as part of the application process
ADMISSION PROCESS
•Must first apply to William Paterson University and to the music department
•Accepted both academically by the university and musically by the music department
