Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Contrasting Pieces

Prepare two contrasting pieces for the audition

Vocalists should include one foreign-language piece if possible

Instrumentalists may use a technical study as the second piece

Pianists may use a technical study as the second piece

Accompaniment

A Jewell accompanist is available with sufficient advance communication about repertoire

Taped accompaniment is not permitted

Complete the Talent Scholarship Application to start the music award and audition scheduling process

The music audition process is required for music majors and also open to non-majors seeking a music award

What's The Process

Audition Process

Music majors must audition for admission to the Department of Performing Arts

The admission audition can happen at the same time as a music award audition

Students may audition on instrument, voice, piano, or a combination

Repertoire should be at the level of material prepared for district or state music festivals

Premier talent scholarships recognize performance ability and academic merit in vocal and instrumental music

Scholarships are available to performing arts majors and non-majors

Applicants may rank multiple talent areas, but only one talent award is given

Awards usually require department participation through applied lessons and one or more ensembles
