Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Audition Options

•Choose Option 1 or Option 2 based on your experience level

Option 1 (Advanced Applied Study)

•Two memorized solo selections in a total of two languages

•One selection in English (American folk songs, sacred songs, or from collections such as Pathways of Song or First Book of Solos)

•One selection in a language other than English (Italian, German, French, or Spanish)

•Selections from musical theatre, choral parts, and popular music are not acceptable for this option

•Sightreading: 8-16 bars of mainly stepwise motion without modulation

Option 2

•Perform two pieces of music of your choice in contrasting styles

•Works should demonstrate technical and lyrical qualities

•Any genre is acceptable (jazz, folk, musical theatre, hymns, etc.)

Audition Requirement

•All prospective music majors and minors must audition for admission to the music program

•Audition is separate from the university application process

Shadow Days

•Visit classes, rehearsals, and have lunch with current students

•Receive a sample lesson with a distinguished applied professor

What's The Process

Audition Format

•Two audition options available (choose the one that best demonstrates your experience and artistry)

•Auditions may be completed on campus on a designated audition day, via a scheduled appointment, or remotely

•A successful audition does not guarantee university admission; you must also be accepted by the Office of Admissions

•Schedule your audition via the Music Department online scheduling form

•Select the remote audition option from the dropdown menu if unable to visit campus
