Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire

One piece of your choosing, any genre or style, on your primary instrument or voice

Accompaniment

Voice applicants provide sheet music or a backing track; an accompanist is provided for live auditions

Instrumentalists perform without accompaniment

Application Process

Submit the Audition Request Form on the CFPA Music website

Form opens November 1 for the following academic year

The Audition Request Form acts as the application to the music program

Separate from the university application — must also apply to WWU through Admissions

Request Deadlines

February 7 audition: request by February 6 at noon

February 28-March 1 audition: request by February 27 at noon

Video submissions: due February 27 at noon

Placement (Not Admission)

Admitted students complete music theory, aural skills, and keyboarding placement assessments — for course placement only, not admission

Capacity

Capacity-constrained major — admission depends on a successful entrance audition

Accompaniment

Voice applicants provide sheet music or a backing track (accompanist provided for live auditions); instrumentalists perform unaccompanied

What's The Process

Live Audition

Held in the Performing Arts Center — check in at the lobby starting at 8:15 AM

Arrive at least one hour early to check in and warm up

Audition on your primary instrument or voice

A brief sight-reading and pitch-matching check may be included — used for assessment, no prior experience required

Audition room number provided at check-in

Video Audition

Submit videos as shared links to YouTube or Vimeo (unlisted, not private)

Each selection may be recorded separately with multiple links

Keep your instrument fully in the frame (hands and upper body for piano)

You may be contacted for a Zoom interview including pitch matching and sight reading

Links must remain active until results are received

Video submission deadline: February 27 at noon

Results

Audition and scholarship results sent by April 1

Acceptance to the music major does not guarantee university admission
