•Prepare two contrasting 32-bar musical theatre selections

•Each cut should be approximately 1 minute

•Use piano-only accompaniment; do not use orchestrated karaoke tracks

•Begin each video with a spoken slate naming the selection, musical, and composer

Monologues

One Theatrical Monologue

•Prepare one monologue, approximately 1 minute

•Must come from a theatrical production; no movie monologues

•Contemporary or classical material is accepted

•Comedic or dramatic material is accepted

•Begin the video with a spoken slate naming the play and writer

Dance

Dance Video

•Record all three WCU dance combinations in a single video: contemporary plus two ballet combinations

•Use the provided instructional video to learn the combinations

•Contemporary combination uses music; ballet combinations are performed without backing tracks

•Film the full body from the front

•Optional tap demonstration may be added at the end

Eligibility

•Applicants may audition up to three times

•Changes to audition materials must be emailed at least 48 hours before audition

•Complete WCU application by February 1 for scholarship consideration

Transfer Pathway

Current WCU/NC Community College transfer guide exists for Theatre BFA Musical Theatre; admission to the concentration remains competitive and may require extra time at WCU.

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Pre-screen application required before the final Musical Theatre audition

•Submit materials in Acceptd by the deadline for the selected audition date

•Applicants receive prescreen decision and audition details after review

•Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA required

•Must apply and be accepted by both WCU and the School of Stage & Screen

•All auditioning freshmen are automatically considered for Stage & Screen scholarships

•Complete the WCU scholarship application by February 1 for scholarship consideration

Audition Expectations

•Final audition may be live on campus or via Zoom by invitation after prescreen

•Be prepared to workshop any selections

•You may use prescreen materials or change selections if the requirements remain the same

•In-person auditions: bring clearly marked sheet music; accompanist provided

•Remote auditions: have piano-only backing tracks queued for both songs

•Dance call included; wear rehearsal attire that allows movement, with jazz shoes or booties recommended
