Audition Requirement
•Audition is required for admission as a music major and for scholarship consideration
•Audition early for the best chance at scholarship funding
Audition Options
•In-person on a scheduled Audition/Shadow Day
•In-person by individual appointment with the department chair
•Video audition via YouTube link
•Live audition via Zoom
Evaluation Criteria
•Demonstrate proficiency on your principal instrument
•Demonstrate sight-reading ability and basic knowledge of music fundamentals
•Considerable experience in school or community musical organizations expected
Accompaniment
•Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own accompanist
•If needed, the department can provide one with at least two weeks notice
•Sheet music must be mailed or emailed to the department at least two weeks in advance
Video Audition Process
•Email Dr. Matthew Harder (mharder@westliberty.edu) to notify of intent to submit video
•Upload video to YouTube (can be private/password-protected)
•You and your instrument must be clearly visible in the frame, with the entire instrument shown
•Video must be unedited (basic trimming acceptable)
•Audio must be clear and free from distortion
