Eligibility

2.0 cumulative high school GPA required, or 3.0 GPA with test-optional admission

Test optional: SAT/ACT scores not required for admission

Degree Structure

The BA in Music is the department's most flexible degree and requires an 18-credit minor in any field except music

Placement

Admitted students take the Standardized Aural Perception Evaluation (SAPE) — used to assess musical knowledge and aptitude for course placement, not for admission

Transfer students take proficiency examinations in theory and applied music and are placed at the appropriate levels

Accreditation

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)

Institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)

What's The Process

Audition Process

A music audition and/or interview is required to be accepted as a Bachelor of Arts in Music major

Audition is also used for scholarship consideration

In-person on a scheduled Audition/Shadow Day

In-person by individual appointment with the department chair

Video audition via YouTube link

Live audition via Zoom

An interview portion lets the faculty learn about your background, interests, and goals in music

The audition panel may propose initial program goals and advise potential minors

Audition Content

Perform a solo of your own selection (instrumental or vocal)

Demonstrate sight-reading ability and basic knowledge of music fundamentals

Considerable experience in school or community musical organizations expected

All music scholarships are awarded based on audition performance

Scholarship types include tuition discounts, housing waivers, and privately funded awards

Audition early for maximum scholarship consideration

Marching Hilltoppers Scholarship

$500 tuition discount awarded to every accepted member, regardless of major

Named Scholarships

Alfred R. de Jaager Choral Scholarship (requires 3.0 GPA, 20 ACT or 950 SAT)

Harald Wiesner Memorial Scholarship (for Music Education, Performance, and Technology majors)

Wm. and Lee Abraham Scholarship (awarded every 4 years to incoming freshmen)
