Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Requirements

Two Contrasting songs, not more than 32 measures each

One song must be from the "Golden Era" genre (1943–1964)

Songs should provide substantial information on your vocal quality and range

Accompaniment

On-campus and Chicago auditions: accompanist provided — bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key

New York and Los Angeles auditions: bring recorded piano accompaniment and a speaker

Monologues

Requirements

Two Contrasting monologues, no more than 3 min total

Choose characters close to yourself in age from scripts written after 1930

Selections should be of a contrasting nature

Must be memorized and fully prepared

Material Selection

Do not select Shakespeare or classical pieces

Do not do extreme characterizations of body, voice, or speech

Characters should be as natural, authentic, and close to you in real life as possible

Do not alter your dialect or accent — use your own speech

Dance

Up to 1 minute of ballet, jazz, and/or contemporary dance

Optional additional 1-minute video of hip-hop and/or tap

Do not send dance videos unless specifically requested

Audition Expectations

Three components: monologues, songs, and brief movement exercises

Check-in at 8:30 a.m., auditions conclude by early afternoon

Perform audition pieces individually — may be asked to do exercises and improvisations

Dress in comfortable, professional clothing for movement exercise at start

No gym clothes, nothing too tight or revealing, no heels above 3 inches

Time to change before performing audition pieces

Scholarship Info
