The 96-credit Ballet emphasis centers intensive ballet technique while maintaining required modern-dance training and exposure to jazz, tap, hip-hop and aerial dance.

Dance history, anatomy and pedagogy complement daily studio work, and ballet, modern and tap classes use live musical accompaniment.

Performance & Productions

Improvisation and choreography lead to a BFA capstone built around individualized research, original choreography and public presentation.

Students also practice fundraising, marketing, technical design and budgeting for their creative work.

Facilities

The Jean and Wells Hobler Center includes a 3,500-square-foot studio with a Harlequin Woodspring sprung floor that can convert into a lighted performance space.

Audition Requirements

Dance

Participate in both a ballet and a modern technique class

During check-in, you can speak with our faculty to decide if you'd like to join the Intermediate or Advanced class, or a combination of both

Pointe work is not required

Solo Performance

Two to three minutes in length

Either a work you choreographed yourself or a piece by another choreographer

Please — no tap solos

8:30 a.m. check-in

8:45 a.m. tour of spaces and program discussion (parents welcome)

9 a.m. individual interviews begin

10 a.m. observe classes and lunch

11:30 a.m. Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Class, solos after

1 p.m. Intermediate/Advanced Modern Class, solos after

Audition Expectations

Three components: interview, technique classes (ballet + modern), and solo performance

Individual interview to discuss dance background and career goals

In-person auditions are highly recommended; applicants unable to attend may instead submit a recorded video audition by emailing it to the Fine Arts Audition Coordinator at auditions@webster.edu

Scholarship Info

Talent-based scholarships of up to $2,000
