Program Recognition
•Housed in VCU's Department of Dance and Choreography, an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD)
•Department earned national visibility including a 2026 Guggenheim Fellowship awarded to a dance alumnus
Training
•18-credit minor with a minimum of 9 credits at the 300 level or higher; no audition required
•Technique coursework (8-10 credits) spans ballet, modern, tap, ballroom, hip hop, West African dance, Pilates and yoga
•Theory and creative track (8-10 credits) includes improvisation, composition, dance history, dance in world cultures, screen dance, lighting and sound design, dance criticism and the business of dance
•Open to students who have completed at least 6 dance credits at VCU with a 2.0 overall GPA
Facilities
•Eight dance studios with floor-to-ceiling windows, the VCU Dance Center and Depot Annex studio
•Grace Street Theater, a dedicated dance performance venue with full theater staff
