Audition Requirements
Dance
THREE DANCE STYLES, 1-2 min each
•A demonstration of Ballet or Technical Dance Work
•A Modern or Contemporary Combination
•A Jazz or Commercial Dance Combination
•Additional areas of dance welcome but optional
CHOREOGRAPHY
•Applicants are responsible for choreographing their own materials or working with current instructor/choreographer
•Limit total video to 6 minutes maximum
Additional Materials
•HEADSHOT or DANCE PHOTO (for scholarship consideration)
•RESUME (for scholarship consideration)
•Two LETTERS OF REFERENCE (for scholarship consideration)
•WRITING SAMPLE or VIDEO (for virtual/off-campus scholarship applicants)
-~500 words or 3-6 min video addressing your interest in majoring in dance and why VSU specifically
-Email directly to swarnett@valdosta.edu after submitting Acceptd application

APPLICATION PROCESS
•Dance audition is separate from and in addition to VSU admissions process
•University application required alongside dance audition submission
•Submit video audition via Acceptd
VIRTUAL OPTION
•Virtual audition submissions accepted via Acceptd for those who cannot attend in person
•Also accepts virtual submissions through Regional Dance America
REGIONAL EVENTS
•Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Jacksonville FL
•Regional Dance America (Norfolk, VA)
•VSU representatives attend additional regional dance events
GPA REQUIREMENT
•Must maintain 2.0 GPA to remain in program — two consecutive semesters below 2.0 results in major change
What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•In-person auditions on campus during Dance Major Experience
•Virtual submissions accepted via Acceptd
•Faculty observe technical ability, performance quality, potential, and adaptability
VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
•1-2 minutes in each dance style: Ballet/Technical, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz/Commercial
•Additional areas of dance welcome but optional
•Applicants choreograph their own materials or work with current instructor/choreographer
•Limit total video to 6 minutes maximum
RESULTS
•Notification by email within one month of audition submission
•Possible outcomes: Accepted (begin coursework) or Not Accepted (may take dance courses and re-audition later)
Scholarship Info
•Dance Program Scholarships available to incoming students
•Scholarship audition requires: headshot or dance photo, resume, and 2 letters of reference
•In-person scholarship candidates complete a short faculty interview
•Virtual/off-campus candidates must submit a writing sample (~500 words) or video (3-6 min) addressing: interest in majoring in dance and why VSU specifically
•Mellon Foundation paid internship program — students who complete internships eligible for $5,000 scholarship
•Scholarships are not automatically renewed — returning students must re-apply each spring
