MTCP Song Option A

Recorded Video Only

Requirements

Two Contrasting songs, One Ballad and One Up-tempo

Each song 60-90 seconds (includes slate at beginning)

Must sing to live or recorded accompaniment (no a cappella)

Songs filmed in 3/4 shot (top of head to knees visible)

One song written prior to 1970, one song written after 1970 and contrasting in style

Slate: Name, song title, and show title

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option B

Recorded Video Only

Requirements

Two contrasting monologues, 60-90 seconds each, including slate at beginning

One contemporary (written after 1900) filmed in close-up shot (top of head to chest)

One classical (written pre-1900) filmed in full body shot (top of head to feet)

Must be from published plays (not musicals, TV shows, or movies)

Only perform Shakespeare if comfortable doing so

Slate: Name, play title, and playwright

Dance

MTCP Dance Option B

Recorded Video Only

Requirements

30-60 seconds of dance in whatever discipline you are most comfortable with: jazz, ballet, modern, African, hip hop, lyrical, or contemporary

No barre work (ballet solo acceptable)

No tap (consider showcasing tap as part of wild card)

Use steps and movement you are familiar with and can execute well

Can be self-choreographed but must be solo video

All choreography must be performed to music (no a cappella)

All dance media filmed in full body shot keeping entire body in frame at all times

No slate required for dance media

Choreography should be story-driven and connected to music with sense of purpose

Ballet

MTCP Ballet Option A

Recorded Video Only

Requirements

Ballet media no more than 30 seconds

Execute brief series of plie, tendu and grande battement

Pirouette en dehors (to both sides)

Grand jete across the floor

Wildcard / Special Skill

Submissions no more than 60 seconds. Can be anything you want: special skill, interesting story about yourself, passion speech, instrument you play, etc. 'What do you want us to know about you?' and 'What makes you unique?'

Program participates in Musical Theater Common Prescreen (Song Option A, Monologue Option B)

Transfer Pathway

Students already enrolled at VSU may audition for the Musical Theatre track during published Theatre Major Experience dates.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Complete the admission audition in person at a Theatre Major Experience day or by recorded submission through Acceptd if unable to attend

These are alternative audition formats; a video submission is not a prescreen for a required live callback

The in-person audition uses the separate live song, monologue, and dance-class requirements

The recorded route uses the video song, monologue, dance, ballet, and wildcard requirements

Upload each recorded piece as a separate media file; include the required slate at the beginning of each song and monologue, not in a separate video

The Acceptd form lists a Fall 2027 submission deadline but is currently closed

Audition Expectations

Theatre Major Experience includes workshops and opportunities to meet current students and faculty

Scholarship Info

Scholarship Awards

Robin Robinson Musical Theatre Scholarship ($5,000) - awarded based on academic achievement and audition

Golden Circle ($900-$1,500), Kay M. Jennett ($2,500), and Eberhardt scholarships also available

Submission Requirements

Submit 2 letters of recommendation and statement of need for scholarship consideration
