Audition Requirements

Monologues

Two Contrasting Contemporary Monologues, 3 Min Total Max

One comic, one serious

Both should be relatively age-appropriate

Material Selection

Select monologues that showcase "your best you"

Trust that your honest movement and speech are sufficient to express the character

Avoid monologues requiring major vocal or physical characterization (dialects, non-human physicality)

Read the entire play — know the playwright and larger story

Avoid monologues from movies, TV, or monologue books without knowing the source play

Optional Extras

If skilled at dialects or broad characterizations, have a third monologue ready in case requested

If experienced with classical text (Shakespeare, Greeks), may use as one of your two required monologues

Additional Materials

Essay

Required 2-page essay summarizing your reasons for wanting to pursue a major in acting

Resume

Required resume listing your acting experience

Headshot

Required recent headshot or photograph

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation required

One letter from an academic teacher or advisor

One letter from a theatre teacher, mentor, or director

Must be accepted to UW-Stevens Point before being admitted to the department

Transfer Pathway

UWSP publishes Fox Valley Technical College AA and AS articulation agreements covering all baccalaureate degrees, including BFA Acting. The Theatre and Dance department determines how transferred coursework applies to this major.

Follow MT audition requirements to be considered for both

Acting faculty may request a second monologue if time permits

Audition Expectations

Perform two contrasting contemporary monologues

Total audition time must not exceed 3 minutes
