Program Recognition
•125-credit BS leading to Utah secondary teaching certification (licensure) in dance, with an option to add an elementary dance endorsement
•Studios follow National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) guidelines (nine contact hours per three credits)
Training
•Coursework spans dance techniques, choreography, performance, dance history, world dance, kinesiology, somatic studies, pedagogy, and music/production
•Trains students as both performing artists and certified dance educators
•National and international guest artists lead annual residencies
Performance & Productions
•Performance opportunities through department companies including the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, Repertory Ballet Ensemble, and Synergy
•Performances staged at the Noorda Center for the Performing Arts
Professional Development
•Prepares graduates to teach in public and private K-12 schools, private studios, community centers, and higher education
•Field experience and student teaching toward Utah licensure
