Portfolio

•Portfolio: submit three musical examples that feature software and/or hardware technological tools in your creative process

•Portfolio examples may include original electroacoustic/electronic compositions made in a DAW, live performance with audio technology, produced recording projects, or sound-design/multimedia work

•Portfolio file: compress the portfolio into a single .zip and email it to Dr. Jason Mitchell (jason.mitchell@utrgv.edu)

•Portfolio formats: .wav, .aiff, .mp3, .mov, .m4v, or .mp4

•Portfolio examples must be created in a digital audio workstation; notation-software-only works are not accepted

•Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement assessment for course placement only; it does not affect admission

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Step 1: Apply to UTRGV through ApplyTexas

•Step 2: Submit the School of Music Audition Request Form (Microsoft Forms)

•The audition has two parts: an audition on your primary instrument and a digital portfolio pre-screening

•Follow-up interviews with the Music Technology faculty may be scheduled after the portfolio pre-screening is complete

Audition Expectations

•Perform two contrasting pieces or movements on your instrument or voice type

•Instrumentalists also perform two-octave major scales (C, G, F, Bb) from memory

Scholarship Info

•Music scholarships are awarded through the audition

•Students residing in TMEA Region 15 or Region 28 must audition in person to be considered for a music scholarship

•Students outside those regions may submit a video audition and still be considered for admission
