•Three-year, 60-hour MFA program with two candidates admitted per year
•Part of UT Live Design and Production — cohort of approximately 30 students total
Training
•Mastery of traditional and modern scenic design techniques applicable to all forms of narrative design
•Strong emphasis on script analysis and interpretation of story and character
•Drawing, rendering, drafting and model-building in conventional and digital media are central components
•Design for theatre, opera, film, television, art installations, exhibit design, theme parks and retail space
Performance & Productions
•Students typically assist a graduate designer in their first semester, then receive production assignments in spring
•At least one major produced design per year with additional smaller opportunities
•Graduates emerge with a full portfolio of realized work across multiple genres
Professional Development
•Participation in the Prague Quadrennial, USITT and design assistance opportunities
•Internship programs at major theaters, opera companies, design studios and television studios — partial financial support available
•Eligible to participate in The National Design Portfolio Review (New York) and Design Showcase West (Los Angeles)
