Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

One 16-Bar Musical Theatre Song, 1 Min Max

Minimum 16 bars from a musical theatre song

Not to exceed 1 minute

Singing is encouraged but not required

Monologues

Requirements

Two Contrasting monologues, 90 sec each (3 min total)

One comic and one serious, OR one classic and one contemporary

Contrasting selections that showcase your range

Additional Materials

Headshot (Required)

Professional-quality headshot not required

Short essay summarizing reasons for wanting to pursue a career in theatre and career goals

Eligibility

Minimum 2.75 GPA required for department admission (higher than standard USU admission)

Fall, Spring, and Summer start options available

Competitive cohort system with limited annual admissions

Enrollment

Retention earned through personal growth, commitment, and faculty evaluation each semester

Important Notes

Apply by Dec. 1 for full academic scholarship consideration; the June 2026 source snapshot does not publish a year for that recommendation

College of Arts & Sciences scholarships require the required form and any department steps during the application period

All out-of-state students should apply for residency for future tuition reduction

What's The Process

Audition Process

Two-step process: apply to USU, then submit supplemental materials to the Department of Theatre Arts

Complete the online Application Intention form on the department website and upload supporting files via Box

Once USU referral and supporting materials are received, department may reach out to schedule an audition/interview

Due to high volume of applications, not every applicant will be auditioned

If selected, scheduling may take several weeks after materials are submitted

George B. & Marie Eccles Caine Theatre Arts Scholarship: full-time Theatre Arts major, 2.5+ GPA, production participation, and applicants should be prepared to audition/interview

Marie Eccles Caine Foundation - Russell Family Scholarship: full-time Theatre Arts major, 2.5+ GPA, production participation, and applicants should be prepared to audition/interview

Vosco Call Scholarship: Theatre Arts juniors or seniors showing professional promise and excellence in acting/directing with performance emphasis

Floyd T. Morgan Theatre Arts Honorary Scholarship: upper-division or graduate students demonstrating excellence in any area of theatrical art
