Application Logistics

•Step 1: Apply to UNT via Common App, ApplyTexas, or the UNT website

•Step 2: Complete the separate College of Music application via Acceptd (opens September 1 annually)

•Step 3: Select your audition instrument/area, then indicate Music Education as your desired degree

Deadlines

•November 1 for consideration at the December audition date

•December 1 preferred for January and February audition dates

•February 15 final deadline for the music application and final video auditions

Placement

•Admitted students take music theory and aural-skills placement exams at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

UNT publishes BM Music Education Transfer Guides/TCCNS course maps, giving transfer students a course-planning path toward the all-level teacher-certification degree. Transfer students still complete the College of Music audition/interview process and UNT teacher-preparation requirements.

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Audition on your principal instrument or voice through Acceptd, then on campus or by final video

•Music education applicants who audition on campus participate in a faculty interview the same day

•Applicants auditioning by final video are contacted for a virtual interview as needed

•Choral music education applicants complete a sight-singing exercise on the audition day

•Live auditions/interviews occur on scheduled Denton campus dates

•Application and audition also serve as the music scholarship application

•Competitive music scholarships are based on talent and professional promise

•Scholarship recipients and award amounts are determined by faculty committees

•Out-of-state students awarded a competitive scholarship of $1,000+ attend at the resident tuition rate

•Oklahoma residents with qualifying tuition rate save approximately $2,400 annually
