•Repertoire: audition on your principal instrument or voice
•Instrumental applicants prepare repertoire for strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp, or piano
Scales & Technique
•Scales appropriate to your instrument — typically two or three major (and where applicable minor) scales, plus a chromatic scale covering your full range
•Percussion: two-mallet marimba/xylophone solo or etude, a concert snare drum solo or etude, and a timpani solo or etude
Repertoire
•Two contrasting selections (movements from a sonata or concerto, etudes, or ensemble excerpts) that demonstrate technical proficiency and melodic lyricism
•Piano applicants present two pieces of contrasting styles that best show their level of technical and musical skill
•Voice applicants follow the vocal requirements: three contrasting pieces, one in a language other than English
Accompaniment
•A staff accompanist is provided for live auditions
