Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Principal string repertoire: audition on violin, viola, cello, or double bass

Violin, Viola, Cello repertoire: 2 scales of choice (one major, one minor, 3 octaves); one solo etude of choice; one movement of a concerto, sonata, or concert piece

Double Bass repertoire: 2 scales of choice (one major, one minor, 2 octaves); one solo etude of choice such as Simandl; one movement of a concerto, sonata, or concert piece

Accompaniment

String accompaniment is preferred but not required for the audition

Audition registration deadline: February 13, 2026

A short interview with Dr. Aaron Jacobs is required in addition to the string audition

Placement

Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement exam at orientation — for course placement only, not admission
