Post-Enrollment Audition and Interview Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

No audition and interview is required for the initial application. The optional scholarship review (audition) is separate from the internal audition and interview gate students complete after enrollment.Gateway source

Monologues

Requirements

One to Two Contrasting monologues, 2-3 min total including introduction

Must be memorized

Should best demonstrate acting ability

A single chair will be provided

All other props or scene partners should be mimed

Optional Singing

Singing is not required

If included, limit to 16 bars of music

Bring recorded music with your own playback device

Transfer Pathway

Transfer students may receive one semester of provisional admission into the BFA Theatre program after a successful interview and audition (Performance) or portfolio review (Design/Technology, Stage Management); all BFA students, including transfers, must complete a minimum of four semesters in the program regardless of total transfer credits.

What's The Process

Audition Process

BFA admission requires first applying to UW-Whitewater, then auditioning for provisional BFA admission after enrollment

Provisional admission granted to freshmen/sophomores based on successful audition

Requires UWW cumulative GPA of 2.50 and Theatre/Dance department GPA of 2.75

Incoming Freshman Scholarship Day held on campus each February

Post-Enrollment

Students evaluated each semester on performance, GPA, and production participation

All BFA Performance students required to audition for all mainstage productions and perform as-cast

Non-participation may damage or prevent progress toward BFA degree

Theatre/Dance Scholarships

Approximately $40,000 in scholarships awarded annually to Theatre majors and Dance minors
