Audition Requirements

Repertoire List (Required)

Prepare two contrasting pieces for the audition; at least one classical piece is preferred; unedited recordings are accepted as one complete performance of both pieces

Letters of Recommendation (Required)

First-year applicants: one letter from a high school music teacher or private instructor, emailed to music@uwsuper.edu before the audition

Transfer applicants: at least one letter from a university ensemble director or applied music teacher, addressed to Music Department Faculty and sent to music@uwsuper.edu

Application Logistics

Apply via the Universities of Wisconsin Application portal

No application fee for domestic students

Schedule the music audition through the Music Department form

Staff follow up within one to two business days after the audition form is submitted

Comprehensive degree (no minor required); 134 total credits

Admission Pathway

New students take theory and aural-skills assessment on the audition day; video-audition students complete it the week before the semester starts

Placement exams are for course placement, not music-department admission

Piano proficiency exam must be passed at least one semester before student teaching

Program Requirements

Leads to Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction K-12 music teaching licensure at degree completion

Includes a semester of student teaching

Students seeking licensure in another state should consult the UW-Superior Institutional Certification Office

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

All prospective music majors audition for admission to the Music Department on their major instrument or voice

Live auditions are encouraged; unedited recordings are also accepted.

Prospective students may contact the Music Department to schedule a free trial lesson with applied faculty

Music Education applicants complete the music audition plus the steps required for admission to Teacher Education

Admission to the Teacher Education program is required to continue toward Wisconsin K-12 music licensure

Transfer students must perform an audition on the major instrument and take placement exams in keyboard, music history, and theory before registering for music courses

Transfer students must complete at least 18 credits in music at UW-Superior for this comprehensive degree
