Audition Requirements

Letter of Recommendation

Required for scholarship applicants only

From a private teacher and/or high school music director

Must address musical background and ability

Must be received no later than two weeks before audition date

Application Logistics

Apply to UW-Oshkosh through the Office of Admissions

Submit a separate Music Audition Application via the school website

Audition registration closes two weeks before each in-person date

Audition day schedules are created two weeks before the audition date

Eligibility

Must be accepted to (or have applied to) UW-Oshkosh before auditioning

Admitted students complete an online Music Theory Assessment for course placement only — it is not used in admission decisions

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

In-person and virtual auditions available

Virtual: live Zoom call or pre-recorded video submission in any format

A committee of Music faculty hears auditions

Auditions begin at 2:30 PM

Held at the Arts and Communication Center, 1001 Elmwood Ave, Oshkosh, WI

Practice rooms available for warm-up

Business casual recommended (no strict dress code)

Playing Audition

All music majors complete an entrance audition on their primary instrument or voice

Prepare repertoire that follows the requirements for your applied area or studio (Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, Voice, Piano, Guitar, or Percussion)

Voice auditions require two memorized contrasting classical art songs (one in a foreign language) and must be accompanied

Instrumental areas typically require contrasting solos plus the scales and technical work listed for that area

Scholarship Eligibility

Audition (live or pre-recorded) must be completed by March 1, 2026

Must meet Music Scholarship Criteria

Complete online Music Theory Assessment within one week of audition (deadline: May 1, 2026)

Submit letter of recommendation from private teacher and/or music director
