•Folk songs, spirituals, popular songs, and musical theatre selections are NOT allowed

•In-person: live accompaniment required (department provides free of charge with 2 weeks notice)

•Virtual: pre-recorded or live accompaniment accepted (must be audible)

•1 letter from a high school music director or appropriate music instructor

•Must be submitted at least one week prior to audition date

•Submit as PDF at least 2 weeks before audition

Application Logistics

•Apply to UW-Eau Claire via Common App or UW System portal

•Activate your UWEC account after applying

•Complete audition application via Gold for Blugolds

•Online audition applications open September 15 each year

•Registration closes two weeks prior to each audition date

•You may audition before receiving university acceptance decision

•University acceptance is required for final program admission

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

•In-person preferred; virtual option available for long-distance students

•Audition addresses three areas: admission, piano placement, and scholarship

•Register at least 2 weeks before your selected date

•In-person: live accompaniment required (bring your own or request department accompanist)

•Virtual: live or pre-recorded accompaniment accepted (must be audible)

•Department accompanist provided free of charge with 2 weeks notice and sheet music submission

•Check-in at Haas Fine Arts Center (121 Water Street, Eau Claire)

•Morning informational meeting with faculty and parent sessions

•Warm-up rooms available after morning meeting

•Business casual attire recommended

Piano Placement Exam

•All prospective students take a piano placement exam on audition day

•Includes sight-reading and fundamental keyboard skills assessment

Decisions

•Scholarship and acceptance decisions announced following March auditions
