Audition Requirements

Songs

Requirements

•Two Memorized Song EXCERPTS, 32 bars each

•One up-tempo from the musical theatre repertoire

•One ballad from the musical theatre repertoire

•Folk songs, spirituals, and popular songs are NOT allowed

•In-person: live accompaniment required (department provides free of charge with 2 weeks notice)

•Virtual: pre-recorded or live accompaniment accepted (must be audible)

•Memorization required

Suggested Repertoire

•Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology (Hal Leonard)

•Vocal scores of complete musicals

Sight-Singing

•Sight-singing example provided during the audition

Additional Materials

Letters of Recommendation

•1 letter from a high school music director or appropriate music instructor

•Submit via Gold for Blugolds audition application

•Must be submitted at least one week prior to audition date

Sheet Music

•Needed only if using the department pianist

•Submit as PDF at least 2 weeks before audition

•Upload to Gold for Blugolds application or email to musthe53@uwec.edu

Application Logistics

•Apply to UW-Eau Claire via Common App or UW System portal

•Activate your UWEC account after applying

•Complete audition application via Gold for Blugolds

•Online audition applications open September 15 each year

•Registration closes two weeks prior to each audition date

•You may audition before receiving university acceptance decision

•University acceptance is required for final program admission

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

•In-person preferred; virtual option available for long-distance students

•Audition addresses three areas: admission, piano placement, and scholarship

•Register at least 2 weeks before your selected date

•Check-in at Haas Fine Arts Center (121 Water Street, Eau Claire)

•Morning informational meeting with faculty and parent sessions

•Warm-up rooms available after morning meeting

•Arrive at audition room 5 minutes before assigned time

•Business casual attire recommended

•Virtual: submit audition videos via email

•Piano and Music Theory Placement Exams are in-person only

Decisions

•Scholarship and acceptance decisions announced following March auditions
