Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Repertoire: play a tune in any style that you enjoy and that demonstrates your abilities, such as a blues in B-flat

Scales/technique: C minor pentatonic, C major pentatonic, C major and minor blues scales, and the C major scale in as many fingerings as you know

Repertoire chords/technique: C major, C minor, and C diminished triads; C major 7, C minor 7, and C minor 7 flat-5 seventh chords in as many fingerings as you know

Sheet Music

Sheet music: bring clean, legible copies of your music for in-person auditions

Music Scholarships

Music majors are automatically considered for department scholarships when they complete an audition

Non-majors may receive scholarship assistance by playing in selected ensembles and studying privately
