•The BM in Composition is a 126-hour professional degree built around original writing, arranging, and performance.
Training
•UIW centers the curriculum on classical (art music) composition while offering jazz study through electives.
•Composition courses are taught through private instruction, giving students individualized work with experienced composers and other music faculty in performance, theory, history, conducting, and musicology.
•In the final semester, students present a public recital of original compositions that demonstrates the styles and techniques developed during the degree.
Professional Development
•The degree supports next steps in composition and music theory graduate study and work in composing, arranging, conducting, film, television, video games, theatre, advertising, and other performing-arts media.
Facilities
•Luella Bennack Music Center provides a 500-seat Diane Bennack Concert Hall, 101-seat Ingrid Seddon Recital Hall, recording studio with Yamaha Disklavier, piano lab, iMac computer lab, teaching studios, percussion studio, and 18 practice rooms.
