Trombone and Bass Trombone: one complete Bordogni/Rochut etude (Book 1, nos. 1-30); one technical etude from Kopprasch 60 Selected Studies or Blazhevich Clef Studies; a three-minute excerpt from any solo work (piano optional)

Euphonium: Rochut Melodious Etudes Book 1 No. 23; Tyrrell 40 Progressive Studies No. 10; a three-minute excerpt from any solo work

Tuba: Bordogni 43 Bel Canto Etudes No. 18; Blazhevich 70 Studies Vol. 1 No. 32; a three-minute excerpt from any solo work

Trumpet: one standard solo piece or one movement of a sonata or concerto; three contrasting orchestral excerpts

Horn does not require a prescreen (see live audition repertoire)

Horn: any movement of a standard concerto; one recital selection; three etudes (Maxime-Alphonse Books 3-6, Kopprasch, Gallay, etc.); three to five orchestral excerpts; one selection of the applicant's choice (notated or improvised)

Trumpet: two contrasting pieces (solos or etudes); three orchestral excerpts of choice; possible sight-reading

Trombone (Tenor): a standard solo (Barat, David, Casterede, Guilmant, Hindemith, etc.); one Bordogni/Rochut Melodious Etude (1-24); one technical etude from Kopprasch or Blazhevich; orchestral excerpts

Euphonium: one lyrical etude from Bordogni/Rochut Book 1; one technical etude from Tyrrell; one standard solo work; two standard band excerpts

Tuba: one lyrical etude from Bordogni 43 Bel Canto Etudes; one technical etude from Blazhevich 70 Studies Vol. 1; one standard solo work; two standard band or orchestral excerpts

Dual Degree

Students seeking both a BM from Eastman and a BA/BS from UR must complete two separate applications

Placement

Admitted students take written music theory and aural-skills placement exams during orientation for course placement only, not admission

Eligibility

SAT/ACT scores not required

Completion of high school required for enrollment

TOEFL required for non-native English speakers (College Board code: 2224)

Audition Process

Trombone, euphonium, tuba, and trumpet applicants upload a preliminary recording by December 1

Horn applicants do not submit a prescreen

Audition Expectations

On-campus dates vary by brass studio from January 29 through February 26

Horn and trumpet applicants choosing a remote audition upload a final video by February 1

Trombone, euphonium, and tuba remote finalists perform over Zoom on their studio's posted audition date

Decisions

Admissions notifications sent via email between March 1 and April 1

No early admission program at Eastman
