Audition Requirements

Repertoire

•Prepare the entrance audition repertoire for your principal instrument or voice on the "all degree tracks other than Bachelor of Music in Performance" list

•Keyboard: two contrasting solo pieces (one by J.S. Bach or from the Classical period, plus a work of your choice); memorization encouraged but not required

•Strings: two contrasting solo works of differing style, tempo, and period, at least one from the classical repertoire

•Woodwinds, brass, and percussion: follow the same instrument requirements listed for the entrance audition

•Voice: two contrasting selections with piano accompaniment, one from the classical repertoire, memorized

Application Portal

•Complete the Music Audition Application separately from the university application

•Common App arts supplement is not accepted for School of Music auditions

•University application is still required through Common App or the school application

Audition Registration

•Register and audition in the same admission round as your university application

•EA/ED registration deadline: October 22, 2025; RD registration deadline: January 28, 2026

Placement

•Admitted students take music theory and aural-skills placement diagnostics at orientation for course placement only, not admission

What's The Process

Audition Format

•On-campus audition is 10-15 minutes and includes the required repertoire, scales, and a short interview with faculty

•Prepare the entrance audition repertoire for your principal instrument or voice ("all degree tracks other than Bachelor of Music in Performance" requirements)

•Live auditions are strongly encouraged

Recorded Audition

•Recorded auditions are available for students who live 3+ hours from campus

•State your full name, what you are auditioning for, and the name and composer of each piece, then record responses to the faculty interview questions

•Upload an unlisted YouTube or Vimeo video

•Scholarships are available through the entrance audition for all band and orchestral instruments, voice, piano, organ, and guitar
