Application Logistics
•Bullet: University application via Common App or school website
•Bullet: Music Audition Application via department portal (also serves as the scholarship application)
•Bullet: Application deadlines: November 9, 2026 (November 21 audition); February 1, 2027 (February 15 and February 27 auditions)
•Bullet: After February 27, applications may be accepted on a rolling basis as funds allow
•Bullet: Admitted music majors take a music theory and aural-skills placement assessment for course placement only, not admission
Admission Pathway
•Bullet: Must be admitted to both Northwestern and the Department of Music & Theatre
Program Requirements
•Bullet: Bachelor of Music Education prepares you to teach vocal or instrumental music in grades K-12
•Bullet: Approved by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board; aligned with INTASC standards
•Bullet: Normally 4.5 years including a semester of student teaching

•Bullet: November 20: UNW Orchestra and Symphonic Band Concert before the November 21 audition (Honor Band & String Orchestra Festival by teacher nomination only)
•Bullet: February 15: "Day Off, Drop In" President's Day Visit
•Bullet: February 27: complimentary spring theatre production (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!) after the audition
