These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition for scholarship consideration - not required for program admission.

Essay

•Submitted with the audition/interview application

•Prompt: What life event, engineer, producer, or artist inspired you to choose a career in the music industry, and why?

•Prompt: Pick a favorite song and describe its audio production -- what you like about it, aspects of the engineering/production process, and what could have been improved

Work Samples (Optional)

•If you have samples of projects you have created, you may share a link to a folder of examples with the Audio/Sound Arts faculty (not required)

Application Logistics

•Submit the audition/interview application (with essay) via the UNG Music Audition portal

•Apply to UNG via Common App or GAFutures

•Register at least two weeks in advance of your interview date

Eligibility

•Must be accepted to UNG before joining the music program

•Dahlonega campus only

Placement

•Admitted students take a music theory placement exam for course placement only -- it does not affect admission

What's The Process

Admission Process

•Submit an audition/interview application, select an on-campus audition date, and include the required essay

•Interview with an Audio/Sound Arts faculty member at one of the department's formal audition dates

•Applicants who play a traditional applied instrument are strongly encouraged to also perform a formal applied audition

•Applicants who do not play an applied instrument select "Audio/Sound Arts -- No Instrument" and are admitted by essay/interview only, then placed into a basic applied study course

•To be considered for scholarships, applicants must perform a traditional audition at one of the department audition dates

•Recordings may be submitted at the discretion of the faculty
