Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Instrumental repertoire: at least two standard solo or etude works showing technical and expressive ability; selections should total at least 10 minutes

Voice repertoire: two contrasting art songs or arias in their original languages; sing the strongest piece first

Piano/keyboard repertoire: two contrasting works by memory, totaling at least 10 minutes, at roughly Bach Two-Part Invention/Prelude and Fugue, Mozart sonata, early Beethoven, or Chopin Nocturne/Prelude/Waltz level

Video

Instrumental scale video: B-flat, E-flat, A, and E major scales over the full instrument range in eighth notes at quarter note = 120

Piano/keyboard scale video: at least four scales and arpeggios, four octaves hands together, including two major and two harmonic minor keys

Voice vocalise video: optional if the two required pieces do not fully show the full-voiced pitch range

What's The Process

Audition Process

Performance applicants must be accepted by the Department of Music and admitted to UNO

Students may audition online or in person with the faculty coordinator for their performance area

Online auditions may be submitted at any time, but early submission before university deadlines is strongly encouraged

Audition Expectations

Undergraduate audition content differs for instrumental, voice, and piano/keyboard applicants

In-person auditions use the same music as the online audition contents

Use clear audio with minimal background noise and place the strongest performance first for online auditions

In-person applicants should bring all needed materials; the department provides pianos and standard percussion instruments

Scholarship Opportunities

Talent-based music scholarships are awarded from faculty recommendations after departmental acceptance

Awards can reach up to the total cost of attendance and are awarded on a rolling basis
