Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Memorized Selections

One art song or aria in a foreign language (Italian, German, Latin, French, or Spanish)

One song from Golden Age Musical Theatre, Contemporary Christian Worship, OR one additional art song/aria in a foreign language

Must sing to musical accompaniment — no a cappella

Additional Materials

Sheet Music

Upload piano sheet music through the ASOTA application before the audition

Sheet music support includes a free collaborative pianist and audition-day rehearsal time for on-campus voice auditions

Good to Know

Application Process

Apply to the University of Mobile before auditioning

Submit the ASOTA application to choose an audition date and provide required materials

ASOTA application materials are due two weeks before the selected audition date

Music Placement

Incoming music majors complete a theory placement exam before course registration

The exam determines the starting theory course; it is not an admission audition

Teacher Certification

Admission to the Teacher Education Program is required to progress in the certification sequence

What's The Process

Audition Format

On-campus auditions are encouraged; most areas also accept a recorded audition

Select a published date in the ASOTA application or choose Private Audition to request an alternate date

Recorded Audition

Upload YouTube or Vimeo links through the ASOTA application

Videos may be public or unlisted, but not private

Audio-only submissions are not accepted

Record one continuous, unedited take and begin by stating your name and introducing the selections

Accompaniment

Voice applicants must perform with accompaniment; a cappella singing is not accepted

A collaborative pianist is provided free for on-campus auditions

Scholarship Info

All ASOTA students automatically considered for talent-based scholarships

Awards up to $25,000 annually
