TWO CONTRASTING SONGS

•Preferably one art song in a non-English language (French, German, Italian, etc.)

•Second selection may be an art song in a different language (including English) or another style such as Broadway, jazz, folk, or gospel

•Selections should contrast in style, period, or mood

Program Requirements

•Foreign language proficiency required (13 credit hours)

•Piano proficiency exam required before graduation

•Must maintain 2.5 GPA in all music courses

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

•In-person audition on scheduled audition dates

•If dates do not work, contact Prof. Corinne Stillwell (cstillwell@umsl.edu) to arrange an alternative time

•Perform 2 contrasting songs

•Aural training: sing back a few lines of notes played on piano

•Sight sing 2-4 lines of music provided at audition

•Brief interview

•Audition determines acceptance into the program and University Singers ensemble

Scholarship Info

Music Scholarships

•Named scholarships available through the UMSL AcademicWorks portal

•St. Louis Symphony "IN UNISON" Scholarships available (paper application, contact department for details)

Scholarship Priority

•Submit university application by December 1

•Submit a recommendation from a current or recent music instructor before audition date

•Complete audition by March 1
