Creative Portfolio
•Submit three or more representative original compositions, including scores (unless a piece is for recorded media alone) and recordings where available
•Label each work with name, instrumentation, duration, and year of composition
•Upload scores and audio/video files directly to the application
•Include a complete list of works you have composed (original works, arrangements, orchestrations, and study pieces)
•Freshmen: polished notation is valued, but faculty are most interested in how the music looks and sounds
•Electronic/computer-as-instrument applicants (Track C): prepare a short composition demonstrating software synthesis, sampling, effects and mastering, and hardware/MIDI controller skills, and bring your own laptop and hardware
Faculty Interview
•All composition applicants complete an interview with the Music Composition faculty
•On-campus applicants interview on their scheduled audition day; remote applicants interview via Zoom (faculty schedule it)
Submission Requirements
•Artistic resume or CV listing all relevant music experience (ensembles, schools, teachers, performances, awards)
•Two letters of recommendation (must be received by Feb. 1)
•Official transcripts, high school and any college (must be received by UMKC Admissions by Feb. 1)
•ACT/SAT scores (optional, required for applicable scholarship opportunities)
