Repertoire List
•Required: prepare at least three tunes in contrasting styles (for example a swing tune, a ballad, and a Latin tune) memorized from the required Conservatory jazz repertoire list for your instrument
•Repertoire list: only tunes on the official required list are permitted; no Real Books or phones — all music must be memorized
•Repertoire list: you will play with a rhythm section; no backing tracks are allowed
•Scales & technique: play major and minor scales plus any jazz scales or modes you know
•Scales & technique: play and improvise over a basic 12-bar blues
•Scales & technique for pianists: demonstrate basic 7th chords (major, dominant, minor, half-diminished, fully diminished)
•Repertoire/musicianship: sight-reading is required at the audition; a live theory and ear-training portion asks you to identify intervals and chord qualities played by a pianist or guitarist
Resume
•Required: artistic resume or CV listing all relevant music experience (ensembles, schools, teachers, performances, awards)
Letters of Recommendation
•Required: two letters of recommendation (must be received by Feb. 1)
Transcript
•Required: official transcripts, high school and any college (must be received by UMKC Admissions by Feb. 1)
Scores / GPA
•Optional when applicable: ACT/SAT scores
