Program Recognition
•The minor is overseen by Department Chair Shelby Newport, Professor of Theatre and Dance and the program's coordinator, based in the Theatre wing of French Hall.
Training
•The Theatre Minor is UM-Flint's broadest theatre credential for non-majors, drawing coursework from across the BFA and BA tracks — acting, design, and technology — rather than one specialization.
Performance & Productions
•Minor students can work backstage or onstage across the department's season, including the 2025-26 Flint Repertory Theatre co-production of "Lucky Stiff" and the fall 2026 production of "Dead Man's Cellphone."
Value
•Theatre Minor students are eligible for department funds such as the Brian K. McDonald Scholarship Fund and the UM-Flint Theatre and Dance Friends Scholarship, awarded through the May scholarship audition/interview process.
