Program Recognition
•UM-Flint's Music program, home to the Music Minor, is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Training
•Minor students take ensemble, theory, and applied-lesson coursework alongside Music majors; specialty instructors cover instruments from bassoon (Jennifer Dean) and clarinet (Michele LaNoue) to low brass (Nathan Musch) and horn (James Schuster).
Performance & Productions
•Music Minor students can perform in ensembles behind annual events such as the Chamber Choir Invitational, which brings UM-Flint's Chamber Singers together with local high school choirs, and the Flint Festival of Choirs, which reached its 23rd year in February 2026.
Value
•The Music Department has awarded more than $75,000 in scholarships in recent years, funded in part through the department's audition process.
