Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Prepare repertoire for the applicant's principal performance area:

Vocalists: two songs from standard art-song literature; one selection may be an aria

Percussionists: a solo, study, or etude on snare, one keyboard percussion instrument, or timpani

Other instrumentalists: contact the Department of Music because the official page lists eligible instruments but does not publish area-specific repertoire

Scales & Technique

Percussionists prepare all major scales from memory on keyboard percussion and basic snare-drum rudiments

Accompaniment

Vocalists must arrange the department-provided accompanist in advance or bring their own at their own expense

Recorded or digital accompaniment is not accepted for vocal auditions

What's The Process

Audition Process

Email musicumflint@umich.edu to register for an audition

All auditions are held in person

Audition appointments begin at 4 p.m.; specific appointment time provided upon registration

Submitting before the February and March audition dates is highly recommended for music scholarship consideration

Accompaniment

Vocalists are provided a staff accompanist when arranged in advance with the Department of Music, or may bring their own at their own expense

Recorded or digital accompaniments are not acceptable
