•Prepares students for careers as culturally responsive music teachers in large urban school districts
•Learn to teach banda, mariachi, and salsa; brass; jazz; percussion; popular music; strings; voice; and woodwinds
•Coursework in Urban Education, Black Cultural Studies, Latin American Music, Teaching Music to Children, and Participatory and Digital Music Practices
Professional Development
•Internships with area music programs and partnerships with Chicago Public Schools teachers
•Graduate eligible for Illinois State music teacher licensure
