Training
•The BA Theatre major requires 41 credits within UD's bachelor's-degree framework. The required core includes Introduction to Performance & Group Dynamics, Stagecraft, Practicum, Acting Studio: Beginning Technique, Voice and Movement I, Great Plays Analysis, Theatre History I and II, Directing for the Stage, and a Senior Capstone in Theatre.
•The curriculum also includes 12 credits of electives, with choices such as Shakespeare, Playwriting, Theatre and Culture, Stagecraft II, Acting Studio: Scene Study, Acting Studio: Styles of Acting, Voice and Movement II, Theatre for Young Audiences, Theatre Trip/Seminar, Auditioning, Internship, and Independent Study.
•UD describes theatre study through technical, creative, historical, cultural, and aesthetic frameworks. The major connects studio curriculum, performance work, academic study, theatre history, play analysis, directing, voice and movement, and practicum experience.
Performance & Productions
•The theatre program presents two full-mounted theatre productions each year. Productions and ensembles are open to all UD students, regardless of major, and academic credit is available for participation in theatre productions.
•Students put their learning into action through regular performances of plays, musicals, improv shows, podcasts, and other collaborative productions. The program's production work gives students a place to apply performance, technical, directing, and collaborative study.
Professional Development
•The official program page identifies theatre directions including teaching drama, arts administration or management, performance, acting, directing, scene or lighting design, and drama or expressive therapies.
•Theatre students can pair the major's core sequence with electives such as Auditioning, Internship, Theatre Trip/Seminar, Playwriting, and Independent Study, creating specific routes into performance, production, writing, administration, and related theatre work.
